Where is District 65?
-
Conventions are an important part of the grassroots nature of the Minnesota DFL as they are the top governing body at each level of our organization. At Conventions, we handle important party business and gather together to put DFL values into action. Here are the most important pieces of business that may be conducted at a convention:
Electing officers to lead the party unit to success for the next election cycle.
Electing Delegates to the Congressional District Convention and State Convention
Electing individuals to represent the unit on the DFL State Central Committee
Endorsing candidates for elected office
Voting on resolutions to be added to the DFL Party Platform
Making changes to the unit’s constitution and bylaws
All this work is, quite literally, the business that makes our party run!
-
Our Convention will be March 29th at Humboldt High School. It will begin at 10:30 am and will continue through the day until party business is completed.
-
When you arrive at Humboldt, follow the signs to find the Credentials table–there can be a long line early in the day, so we recommend arriving early. At the Credentials table, you will get a badge that identifies who you are and whether you are a Delegate or Alternate. You will need your credentials to be in the voting space.
-
If you are an Alternate, we still ask that you come to Humboldt and get your Credentials by 10:30. When Convention starts, you will sit in the guest area until all the Delegates have signed in. At that point, the Credentials volunteers will call Alternates back and will upgrade as space allows. This will happen throughout the day.
As an Alternate, you are welcome to hang with other Delegates except when there is a vote.
-
Our campaign (and likely the other campaigns as well) will have a hospitality room. We will have food and supervised activities for kids. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or other needs for Convention by filling out our Convention commitment form.
-
Yes! Conventions are family friendly. Our campaign will offer supervised kid activities in our hospitality room.
How and when do I vote in 2026?
-
Each party holds conventions through the spring that culminate in the State Convention. At each convention, delegates, who have raised their hands and been elected by neighbors, get to vote on which candidate will get the party endorsement. The SD 65 convention was March 29th–delegates endorsed House and Senate candidates for SD 65 (Robyn was endorsed for Senate!)
Here are some of the other conventions in which eligible SD 65 delegates can participate:
April 26th: St. Paul and Ramsey County Conventions–Humboldt High School, 30 Baker St E, St Paul, MN 55107Delegates will endorse candidates for St. Paul School Board and Ramsey County Commissioner.
May 3rd: CD4 Convention–North Central Regional Council of Carpenters, 710 Olive St, St. Paul, MN 55130Delegates will endorse a candidate for U.S. Congress, District 4.
May 9th: CD2 Convention–Burnsville High School, 600 State Hwy 13, Burnsville, MN 55337
Delegates will endorse a candidate for U.S. Congress, District 2.
May 29th–31st: DFL State Convention: Mayo Civic Center, 30 Civic Center Dr SE, Rochester, MN 55904
Delegates will endorse DFL candidates for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State,
and State Auditor. They will also consider platform resolutions for adoption into the DFL Ongoing Platform and Action Agenda and consider changes to the State DFL Constitution and Bylaws. -
Any candidates who wants to be on the ballot has to file with the Minnesota Secretary of State between May 19th and June 2nd. Candidates who file will be on the Primary and General Election ballots.
-
To vote in Minnesota, you must be:
A U.S. citizen
At least 18 years old on Election Day (16 & 17 year olds can pre-register)
A resident of Minnesota for 20 days
Not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction
Not under a court order that revokes your right to vote
Registering is quick and easy. You can register online here with the following:
Your Minnesota driver’s license or Minnesota identification card number, or the last four numbers of your Social Security number
An email address
You can check out the Secretary of State website for other ways to register, including on election day.
-
All candidates who file will be on the Primary ballot. In partisan races, multiple candidates may file to be the party’s candidate. The Primary election is where Minnesota voters determine which of those candidates will be on the November General Election ballot for each party.
When you get your ballot for the primary, you will see columns for each party. You will be instructed to only vote for candidates of one party. So if you vote DFL, you will only vote DFL down your whole ballot. The candidate who wins the primary will be that party’s candidate on the November General Election ballot.Minnesota’s Primary Election Day is Tuesday, August 11th, but voters can also vote early between June 26th and August 10th.
-
The General Election is always held on the first Tuesday of November. This year, Election Day is Tuesday November 3rd. You can find your polling place here.
Minnesota also has early voting in person and by mail. Early voting begins Friday, September 18 and lasts until the day before Election Day. Find your early voting location here. -
CONVENTIONS
All SD 65 delegates who were elected on Precinct Caucus Night (February 3rd) and live in the appropriate voting area can participate in city and county conventions
Only delegates who were elected from the SD 65 Convention can participate in Congressional District (CD) and State Convention.
VOTING
All voters can (and should) vote in both the Primary and General Elections! You can vote early in person or by mail, or in person at your regular voting location on both Primary and General election day.
